Which feature you'd like to see next to the Inkscape extensions?

What is mean 'flip Y axis'?
Rotary attachment?

The K40 zero 0,0 and Inkscape zero 0,0 are not the same. The K40 has the back of the machine as Y zero while in Inkscape it's the front of the k40. That's why we need to mirror the Y axis in software. There is no option to do so in the cutting Plugin hence you need to mirror this in Inkscape before cutting.

Hi Paul,

What would Jog and config entail?

A jog wheel and a screen?

Daniel

A stop or cancel button on the plugin while it is streaming would be a great addition

Excellent pick up! Abort can be added via the optional buttons. Just hookup a push button to the K40 shield (the pins are labelled).

Left, Right, Up, Down arrows to move the laser head. Config screen and/or fields to choose values from e.g. laser mode $28 = 60, 122, 244, 1kHz etc

My shield is difficult to read but it appears the abort would be next to the PWM pin, followed bu resume then hold.  What would the other side of the push button be connected to?

All buttons have a common ground so you can all tie the buttons together on the ground signal and connect the other side of the buttons to their respective functions (pause, abort, resume).

- a "test" button, to trigger one laser shot

- a function to engrave a small cross on every corner of the canvas. That would help to define if the sizing is correct, and help to position the material

An option in the rasterize extension to skip the big empty spaces.
I mean, if you take your canvas and put some text at the top and some text at the bottom, the rasterizing will spend a lot of time to travel in zigzag in the empty space between the 2 texts. Maybe would it be possible to divide the image in 2 blocks and to travel in a straight line between them?

hi sebastian, I spend some time to fix the white space issue in 256 grey scale engraving:

see http://awesome.tech/download/beta-update-gerbil-raster-plugin/

would Vector engraving be useful to anyone else besides myself? alternative to raster engraving with sharper results. say perhaps an extra gcode generator for this type of work.

cheers

I am finally back on the laser project for now. We are setting up 2 k40s in a maker space for students to use. One for cutting and one for engraving. To preserve tube life if would be a nice feature to be able to set a max power in the firmware. I thought about putting a current limiting resister inline with the laser power cable but thought better of it because it would need to be a power resister and would need to be able to displace heat which complicates where to install it, shield connections etc..

Hi Gregg,

adding a resistor in the HT circuit will work but I find it a risky / not safe option due to the high voltages and insulating difficulties (unless you put it in the return to ground circuit which still has its risks). A better option is to add a voltage divider in the IN input circuit of the laser psu (which is the pwm output of the Gerbil shield). e.g. 1k/10k (which reduces the 5V pwm input to 90% to 4.5V on the IN laser psu connection )
