Do I see it correctly that I have to set the steps with $101 if I use a rotary in the K40?

You might want to experiment with setting the zero position via the G90 command.

For example G90 X0Y0

That sets the coordinates at zero without the need to home. Dan will publish his blog with more details that are proven to work. I will test it today.
