On-device head positioning.

Has anyone looked at ways to control head position from on the K40 itself?  Or does anyone have any tips for head positioning?

The context:  When the machine is off I can manually put the head wherever I want - of course the software has no idea where I've put it, and it often re-homes when I turn it on.

My control computer isn't well placed for input when setting the head position.  I can barely see the cutting surface.  At least I have a sighting laser now so parallax is no longer an issue.

What I'd like is to be able to find 2 points on a previous cut, and do a new cut relative to those points.

The solutions I can see are...
1. have a way on the input panel to move the head - maybe a joystick and some sort of speed control (to allow for precision) with the software aware of the movement.
2. have a release for the head to let me realign it manually (but with the software monitoring the position) - less keen on this - I like a no-hands in the live machine rule
3. have good keyboard shortcuts for the movement options in the lightburn software (maybe these exist and I've just not found them) - these would need to include some form of micro-step option for high precision targeting.

Anyway, if anyone has done this, or has ideas on what can be done, I'd love to hear about it.

Happy cutting,

Keith
