No homing no connection to computer

I have the board installed(non ribbon style) the led is on the heartbeat led is flashing. When I turn on the machine the x and y axis lock (they are powered) but it doesn’t home. Also my computer doesn’t even see the board as a usb I’ve tried all the cables I can find still nothing. Scanned with Lightburn and it doesn’t find it.
I am running windows 10 , Lightburn 0.9.16

the usb cable I bought that was supposed to support data did not I went to Best Buy and bought a good cable and it fired right up
