MG2 suddenly detected as unknown usb device win10
Quote from Valentino Angioi on November 2, 2025, 3:07 amHi,
so i've been using the mini gerbil v2 for quite a while now with no issues, two years ago i even updated the firmware and installed air assist. This year i haven't been using my laser at all and two days ago i thought i check if everything works, since i recently reinstalled windows on my work laptop i had to re-add the laser to lightburn, no issues here.
But today i thought i'd do some simple engraving to see if the laser still works properly, but for some reason windows does not detect the mini gerbil controller anymore, its detected as an unknown usb device (descriptor request failed).
Tried replacing the usb cable but got the same issue.
Tried it on a different laptop with no success.
Power led is on and the heartbeat led is blinking.
Connected it to the STM ST-Link V2 and was able to read the firmware no problem, tried reflashing it to see if it would fix anything but the same error persists.
I'm thinking of buying another cable just in case, but also a replacement connector for the MG2 board.
If there is anything else i can check or try I'd be happy for some information!

See the download link below:

If that doesn't work, please let me know.

Quote from Valentino Angioi on November 5, 2025, 5:39 amHi, i forgot to mention that, i tried installing the windows 8 64bit driver but windows still wouldn't detect the mini gerbil properly.
Only other thing i can think of is that the usb cable was still connected when it first worked, i disconnected it as it seemed to not be firmly held in the connector, and after that windows would not recognize it anymore, which is why i think the port may have become faulty.
Though i see no visual damage on the connector or the gerbil board itself. Maybe this is a good excuse to buy the new version, mini gerbil 3 😀
Still it would be great if i could fix it, it never hurts to have a backup controller board.
