Laser not turning off while traveling
Quote from Oskari Hiltunen on September 25, 2020, 2:57 amHi, so when I start cutting the laser just won't turn off while traveling I have tried $31 $30 $32 stuff if I remember correct, I also checked that cables are properly connected and tightened. Any ideas?

Quote from Paul on September 25, 2020, 8:07 amHi the laser on/off is done via G-code commands M4 and M5. The LO signal (Laser On) is connected from the K40 terminal block on the left to the big connector on the Mini Gerbil. If that connection is loose or not connected then the laser stays on. You can measure with a multi meter the connection when powered off (ohm setting) or measure if the voltage is zero when at rest (should be 5 V dc at rest). Sometimes the prong in the big connector travels up into the connector housing causing a loose or bad connection. So use a small instrument screw driver to push it gently back and re-seat the connector on the Mini Gerbil.
The $ settings are for configuration purposes only not for G-code streaming data.
Cheers, Paul

Quote from Dan on September 25, 2020, 11:00 pmHi,
thanks for the photo. From the top I can't see if the your K40's plug is secure - I've seen even a hairline gap cause a problem. Yes, K40 plugs are made to a price!
Please check the attached image and confirm your plug and socket are fully connected as shown, and that the pins are properly seated down inside the plug. The left pin shown in the photo is the LO, so that is the most likely problem area.
Regards,
Dan

Quote from Dan on September 25, 2020, 11:10 pmIf the problem is coming and going randomly then it's unlikely to be caused (or fixed) by software. A problem coming and going is more likely hardware related.
Is there anything you can think of that's changed between when it was working and when it wasn't?
I believe you're reviewed grounding issues (a common cause of intermittent problems) already? https://awesome.tech/k40-laser-grounding-instructions/
We once had a customer with similar problems, which we eventually found were caused by other equipment on the same powerpoint (wall socket)... pumps, motors, etc? If you have similar, please try unplugging and see if they are causing interference.

Quote from Dan on September 26, 2020, 11:53 pmNot turning off while travelling is still the same issue - I think there is a poor connection somewhere. Could you please carefully check the area I have circled in red? Is the wire showing enough metal, and is the screw tight?
