Gerbil occasionally resets GRBL settings

Hi everyone,

I use Gerbil with Lightburn and generally they are good. However, sometimes my Gerbil resets its GRBL settings after I turn my K40 off and on.

Does anyone know what the reason is?

Thanks

Long

Hi Long,

The settings are stored in the EEPROM memory of Gerbil. I suspect that the electrical transient spikes of the power supply switch does the resetting. You can rewire the power lines with some earth shielding or/and add a 100nF capacitor on 5v/ground and on the 24v/ground.

Or you can asks an engineer or electrician to add a coil/cap suppressor circuitry to the power switch (110V/240VAC). This last remedy is of course only for qualified people who know how to wire that up.

Good luck and let us know if it helped.

Yeah, it was also what I have guessed. The reset often comes with notorious K40 incidents of skipping Y axis, so I guessed perhaps there was a something wrong related to spikes of power.

When the Y axis is skipped, I see that the Y motor makes grinding noise and cannot spin at all. . Also I have noticed that the Y motor gets power via the Gerbil board. Is it possible that the arduino board sometimes cant provide enough power for the motor?

I have loosen the Y belt , also covered my Gerbil with anti-static bags and keep the laser head work only in the middle of the working area (I guess it requires less torque force there), and so far so good. I am still not quite confident though. Anyone knows where to buy better and compatible power supply and stepper motors for K40 ?

Thanks Paul, I will get this forum updated if I find something new.

Cloudray at Aliexpress does sell good power supplies and other components. They aren't cheap but it is of better quality and works.

Thanks Paul.  I will definitely have a look at their products
