Here's how it turned out, I made an EVA foam insert for my telescope lenses. Deeper pockets can be created by cutting several layers of EVA.

#safety - Make sure the foam you cut is definitely EVA - other types of foams/plastics may not be laser safe and can emit toxic smoke
