Stock K40 = Stock config?
Quote from Deleted user on February 12, 2019, 7:32 amI was wondering if I have to change any settings in the config file or if it is truly a PNP setup for a stock K40 install with the new Mini Gerbil controller?
TIA

Quote from Paul on February 15, 2019, 10:13 amYes, all config has been set up for the stock K40.
However these configurations are very conservative to cater for all k40s. Some K40s come with loose belts and under perform on high speeds. A well adjusted K40 can do better ($110=24000 instead of 12000).
The frequency of the PWM has been set to 1.5kHz ($28=5) which can be changed. From test trials over the last year has shown that this gives the best engraving on high speeds.
Laser software 'LightBurn' is a great match for the mini Gerbil and let you send commands to the mini gerbil via its console so it is very easy to tune your machine to get the best performance. You can run the trail version for 30days to play with it and buy the subscription from LB or discounted from us via our second web store https://supergerbil.com
cheers!

Quote from Deleted user on February 15, 2019, 10:32 amThank you as usual Paul! I have already purchased LightBurn months ago as a bud LOVES it and you can go wrong for $40! Now I am trying to figure out where to connect to get a signal for my IOT Switching Relay Power Strip for air assist or water or whichever I want to start when laser starts a job.

Quote from MattyO on March 11, 2019, 3:23 pmHi Paul I am having trouble achieving this. {A well adjusted K40 can do better ($110=24000 instead of 12000).}
I know my belts are tight. But if I go over 13000 My stepper skip. Can I up the current on the steppers drivers?

Quote from Paul on March 11, 2019, 3:45 pmYes you can increase the current slightly. If that doesn't help that you can reduce the 1/16 micro step to 1/8 via the jumpers under the step stick. You also have to reduce the steps in $100 and $101 from 157 to 79 or 80.
Cheers Paul

Quote from MattyO on March 11, 2019, 4:44 pmThanks, that worked. Do you see any benefits in changing over to DRV8825 maybe slightly more power and go back to 1/16 I have a couple of spares. But would be interested in your experience. Thanks

Quote from Paul on March 11, 2019, 5:39 pmYes DRV8825 might give you a bit more torque. Are you using a stock K40 or different laser? If K40, the belts might be a bit too tight and causing fiction... also check the pulleys that the belt does not rub on the sides.
