60W laser - no 5V on power plug

Hi all,

I am new here and first time using awesome tech board. My first laser was K40 50W and now I bought 60W 6040 version and I have some problems with installation. Can someone please help me with installation of MG3 board in my laser? I aready found what I think is the problem but wanted to be sure what to do.

So, on my power suply I have just 2 blocks of connectors, not 3 as on standard K40. As I see instead of thirdth block of connectors on main power supply i have additional board with 5v, 24V and ground outputs on left side of board. Please see attached pictures.

In same time original board in laser was Nano M3 and on power connector is just 24V, ground and one wire that goes to L on power supply. There is no 5V wire.

I think that is obvious that I need to connect 5V to board as 4th wire in power connector. I have 5V directly on power supply and on additional board too. My guess is that I can use any of them for powering 5V to MG3 but I am not sure? Don't want to ruin something on brand new laser machine.

If someone with same laser or with more experience can take a look at attached pictures I woul be very grateful.

Thank you

Hi Silvestar,

Thanks for the detailed photos which always helps with answering these questions.

The bigger lasers above K40 do come indeed with two power supplies, one for 24V to drive the larger stepper motors in the laser and one for the laser tube and 5V dc.

You can route the 5V from the laser power supply (sticker RD36443) to the MG3 power connector. (The connector is a MOLEX MT156 or KK156) see https://www.digikey.com.au/en/products/detail/molex/0766500103

Ideally you get one of those the metal connector insert prongs and connect it to your 5VDC terminal on the laser power supply. After you connect the wire to the metal insert prong, you can push it into the white connector housing until it clicks into its position. In case the wire gets loose, you can undo the metal insert prong via a tiny screw driver to release it from the housing. There is a tiny upstanding nudge on the metal insert prong that hold in its position within the connector housing.

If you have issues getting the connector, please let me know and I help you further.

Thank you Paul,

finally everything works now. Just one thing  - I didn't found connector MOLEX MT156 or KK156 or anything like that near me. So I ordered from aliexpress and waited for 2 weeks 🙁

On Aliexpress it is JST VH3.96 connector
