Gerbil installed no movement ,laser always on

I got my new Gerbil today and installed it following the instruction and video, i pluged it into the computer and the green light turned on and the driver was showing up correctly but when i went to do the circle as shown in the video nothing happened, no error just a short glimpse of the k40 is working message and then it disappeared, so i reinstalled inkscape 32 bit and extensions and still no movement of any kind, so i restarted the computer and tryed again. On this try the green light on the board did not come on and nothing happened when i did the circle as shown in the video. So i restarted the board and the k40 and turned on the laser and it was running with no input from the computer or me the laser was just stays on. If anyone has any ideas on what the problem may be please let me know. ( all wires are connected correctly per diagram and multi meter testing before being connected)

Hi, let me know how you go with the ftdi driver and see if the board communicates. Also the second board is underway so we can compare what happens. Maybe the board died?

Just got the new board in and still no movement, I have the correct driver installed.

But nothing seems to happen when i run it on cncjs.

CNCjs 1.9.15 [Grbl]

Connected to COM8 with a baud rate of 9600

> $H

(It Does not Move)

And When i try to do movement on cncjs the has the stop symbol and it wont let me click on the movement button.

I am using my normal usb cable i use to do software mods on android phone so i know its not the cable, if you have any ideas let me know.

IT WORKS, Had to change the rate on CNCjs and uninstall inkscape and install the older one and it works!!!

Hi, That's really great news. Also check for ground loops (reason for getting sparks from your usb plug!). Better be safe than sorry.

Hi, Paul and parkhopper!

I have the same problem.  Just got the gerbil installed (your daughter did an excellent job with instructional video!).  Hooked it up to computer (windows 7) running inkscape and followed instructions on circle burning.  Light on gerbil is green but no movement.  Head is locked in place.  Tried reversing connector like in video, still nothing.

No idea what your message involving 'cncjs' or 'correct driver' means (I'm not very tech savvy...).

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Just debug the communication via CNCjs, which is a simple but great Gcode sender that allows you to test the various part of the system (comms, motion, laser power). See downloads page and forum or google "cncjs desktop app" if you want to download it.

If your gerbil does not communicate with your computer then try a different laptop/pc and or usb cable (some are charger cable only) and see if that works. It should work with the standard windows usb drivers otherwise goto ftdi.org and download their vcp driver (for the FTDI231x chip).

Let me know how you go.
